The Trinity College, Kandy National Drum and Dance Troupe represented Sri Lanka at the 2026 Andong International Mask Dance Festival, held in Andong, South Korea. The international festival brought together traditional and contemporary mask-dance performers from around the world, providing an opportunity for cultural exchange and artistic expression.
The festival took place from 24 September to 4 October 2026 at several locations across Andong, including Andong Station, Talchum Park and the old downtown area. It celebrates the heritage of mask dance through Korean and international performances, parades, community events and the World Mask Play Competition.
The Trinity College National Drum and Dance Troupe departed Sri Lanka on 23 September and returned on 5 October 2026. During the festival, the troupe presented two performances, introducing international audiences to the rhythms, movements and traditions of Sri Lankan dance.
The troupe also participated in the World Mask Play Competition in both the individual and group categories. The Trinity delegation received Special Awards in both categories, recognising the students’ performances and dedication.
The tour was supported by the guidance and training of the troupe’s instructors, Mr Sunil Chandrasiri and Mr Imal Wasagarathne. Their preparation helped the students represent Sri Lanka with confidence throughout the festival.

For the young performers, the visit to Andong was an opportunity not only to share Sri Lankan cultural traditions with international audiences, but also to experience the artistic traditions of other countries.
The troupe’s participation and Special Awards at the festival mark another achievement in the history of the Trinity College National Drum and Dance Troupe. The students’ performances provided an opportunity to represent Sri Lanka and share an important part of its cultural heritage with audiences from around the world.
The troupe returned to Sri Lanka on 5 October, bringing home valuable experience and memories from their participation in the Andong International Mask Dance Festival.
