The evening began on a resounding note with both choirs performing “Name of Names”, after which the cathedral choir performed “Speechless” and “Be Thou My Vision” on their own. Throughout the musical performances, short messages were read, which reminded the congregation of the meaning behind the music. The songs each melded into each other, with bright rhythms and joyfully sung choruses. The Chapel tastefully lit and the sound carefully managed not to steal the natural beauty of the Chapel, creating a perfect atmosphere for the performance.
The Trinity College Choir re-joined them and sang “My Abba’s Child” and “Abba Father”. This time, the pieces were soft, and the sweet voices of the young choristers rang out softly, filled with emotion, slowly building up to and climaxing to a powerful final chorus moving the audience to tears.
The Cathedral Choir continued several pieces depicting God’s love for humankind. The lighting and audio delivered almost an ethereal ambiance when the words “see from His head His hands His feet” were sung to the sound of a nail being hammered in the background. The audience was held in awe.
Just before the Finale, speeches was made by a representative of the Inner wheel club, thanking all who had come for their donations to charity, as well as the choirs of the Cathedral of Christ the Living Saviour and Trinity College Kandy, as well as their respective directors Ishan de Lanerolle and Lasantha Tennekoon for organizing and taking part in the event. The Bishop of Kurunegala came forward and said the blessing. The principal of Trinity College came forward and added his thanks and appreciation, before the choirs gathered for the final part of the evening.
For the finale, the choirs sang the piece “I will never be the same again”, followed by the main theme “Name of Names/Speechless”, before finishing with the final verse “Were the whole realm of nature mine” to the soulful tune of ‘O Waly Waly’. The final note echoed through the Chapel, filling it with emotion and music.
