By Chaniru Senhas (Web Content Team) The five houses of the Junior School had been training hard with their coach Mr Thillai Sivabalan to compete in the Inter-house Soccer Tournament on the 15th of July. On the day of the competition, teachers, parents and students gathered at the Junior School ground to cheer for their houses and friends. Eager spectators witnessed fierce competition among many skilled young Trinitians as they played hard, but fair, to serve their houses. After multiple hours of intense gameplay, it was time for one house to emerge champions, and to take the trophy home. The results are as follows: 5th place – Carter Yellows – 2 points 4th place – Carter Reds – 6 points (1.5 bonus points) 3rd place – Boarding House – 6 points (2 bonus points) Runners up – Carter Blues – 12 points Champions – Campbell House – 14 points A special thank goes to the TIC, Mrs. Nirmala Dissanayake, the event referee, Mr. Sanoj Srinath, the coach, Mr Thillai Sivabalan, and all other staff members and parents for supporting these young Trinitians on their Soccer journey.
Reviewed by Rehan Anandakumar (Web Content Team) The annual football encounter;TCK vs S. Thomas’ College Mt Lavinia unfolded at the Digana Sports Complex on November 11th, 2023. Both A&B teams of U14 and U16 age categories competed at this event. The highlight of the tournament was the showdown between the 1st XI competing for one of the prestigious trophies of the season. The day kicked off with the U14 A team clash, with both the teams displaying their formidable skills. Despite the struggle, Trinity unfortunately lost the game with a match score of STC 3 /TCK 0. This match ended with STC leading with 5-0. Next was the U16 A team match which was one of the fiercest matches until the final five minutes. There were no goals from both the teams, yet S. Thomas’ clinched a goal in the final minute, winning the match. However, the U16 B team managed to draw out their match with the scoreboard remaining at 0-0. Then was the most anticipated 1st XI match which lived up to expectations with both the teams delivering a spectacle of equally competitive skills. The audience witnessed nail biting moments with the ball knocking on the side bars few inches away from the goal post. To make the match more intense, it started to rain heavily, yet the play didn’t stop and finally S Thomas sealed their victory by scoring a last-minute goal with a match score of 1-0. At the awarding ceremony, S. Thomas 1XI team was crowned the champions for the year 2023. The annual football encounter between Trinity College and St. Thomas’ is once again highlighted in the sporting calendar leaving fans looking forward to the friendly rivalry encounter of 2024. Reviewed by Chaniru Senhas Among the diverse sports in which Trinity College excels, football has recently surged in popularity across all three sections of the school. This newfound enthusiasm can be attributed to the remarkable victories achieved by the senior teams at the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association (SLSFA) Division II Group N games, held on September 11th and 12th at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium Pallekele. Trinity’s stellar performance in these matches catapulted the college to the summit of the league. Trinity’s opening match pitted them against St. Anthony’s College Kandy, resulting in an astonishing 7-point victory. Vidumeth Dhammage and Akshee Mahadivulwewa each netted two goals, while Vevash Muraleedran, Shaan Althaf, and Uvan Vithanage contributed with one goal each. In the second match, Trinity secured a resounding 2-0 victory against St. Sylvester’s College Kandy, courtesy of goals from Dev Karavita and Stephen Asher. Trinity continued its winning streak with a 3-0 triumph over Sri Sumangala College. The next challenge came forth with Dharmaraja College, where Trinity emerged victorious with a score of 3-1, thanks to goals from Yevan Hulangamuwa, Dinusha Peries, and Viduneth Dhammage. As the final whistle blew, Trinity proudly occupied the top spot in the league, amassing a total of 12 points. This achievement not only brought glory to Trinity Football but also instilled pride in the entire college community. It stands as a testament to the relentless dedication and hard work of the students who persevered day and night to turn this success into reality. The football match was held on 18th of January, 2023 at the Pallekele Rugby Stadium. In their first group match the Trinity Under 20 football team secured a dominant victory with a score of 08 – 00 playing against Sri Sumangala College, Kandy. Goal scorers at the Under 18 game were Master Mohammed Shan (2 goals), Master Viduneth Dhammage (2 goals) Master Yewan Hulangamuwa (1 goal), Master Akshee Mahadivulwewa (1 goal), Master Uvan Vithanage (1 goal) and Saihan Ibrahim (1 goal). The second group match was against St. Anthony’s College, Kandy where the Trinity Under 18 football team won convincly with a score of 08 – 00. The third group match was against Berrewaerts College, Ampitiya where Trinity Under 18 football team won with a score of 03 – 00. The football match was held on 22nd of December at the Pallekele Rugby Stadium. Goal scorers at the Under 20 game were Master Mohammed Shan (2 goals) and Master Yevan Hulangamuwa ( 1 goal). In their first group match the Trinity Under 20 football team secured a dominant victory with a score of 13 – 01 playing against St. Anthony’s College, Kandy. Goal scorers at the Under 20 game were Master Mohammed Shan (4 goals), Master Yewan Hulangamuwa (3 goals) and Master Akshee Mahadivulwewa (3 goals), Master Stephen Asher (2 goals) and Master Sharun Ravikumar (1 goal).
