The Central Boarding house emerged victorious maintaining its winning streak, at this year’s Inter-House Track and Field Competition, held on the 21st of January 2023 at the Trinity College Asgiriya Cricket Stadium.
Taking into mind the famous quote, “There is no such thing as bad weather, just soft people”, the event was a resounding success despite the fact that it was a cloudy day with light rain.
Mr. Duminda Silva was the event’s Chief Guest. We must acknowledge that being in the presence of such a wonderful and inspiring Trinitian filled us with awe. Mr. Duminda Silva received the Ryde Gold Medal in 1992 for being the most outstanding all-round student. He competed for Sri Lanka in three sports: basketball, rugby, and men’s netball. During his netball career, he rose to the position of captain of the first ever Sri Lankan Men’s Netball team in the year 2000. Mr. Duminda Silva is currently employed as a Vice President at DFCC Bank PLC.
Athletes were training every single day with their determination being the thought of serving their house and winning the competition. In addition, the teachers were extremely supportive of their students on their path to triumph.
The 20 x 100m relays were held on the day of the Inter House Track and Field competition 2023, followed by the 4 x 100m relays. There was also a tensing 100m sprint for athletes aged 12 to 20. There were a few exciting events, such as the staff race, that got the crowd’s adrenaline pumping.
We were treated to a stirring speech from our Principal and an equally awe-inspiring speech from our Chief Guest at the conclusion of the Athletic Meet. Following that, the winners were presented with their awards.
