The Junior Nationals (Zonals) Badminton Championship, held from September 9th to 13th at the KMC Indoor Stadium and from September 17th to 19th at the Badminton Court of St. Anthony’s College, proved to be an excellent opportunity for TCK’s emerging badminton players. Over fifty-five school’s young athletes participated in many categories for their outstanding talent, tenacity, and sportsmanship.
Exceptional Feats
The competition featured remarkable performances by the following Trinity players:
Under 11 Boys Singles:
- T.M.W.M.S. Wijayathunga: Runner-up
- Ishith Wimalaratna: Quarterfinalist
Under 13 Boys Singles:
- Seth Wijayaratna: Semifinalist
Under 13 Boys Doubles:
- Seth Wijayaratna / Nishith Wimalaratna: Runner-up
- Thisas Bandara/Senula Wijethunga – Semifinalist
- Abrar Akmal/Inura Sandul – Quarterfinalist
Under 17 Boys Singles:
- D.S.H. Ranasinghe: Runners up
- P.G. Dissanayake: Semifinalist
- Vidath Peera: Quarterfinalist

With all the listed players qualifying for the 52nd Junior Nationals Badminton Championship 2024, Trinity College Kandy has proven to be a powerhouse for young badminton talent. The team’s performance at the zonal level is a testament to their hard work, perseverance, and the exceptional training provided by their coaches.
