Central Province Colours were awarded to three Swimmers from Trinity, A. I. S. Dikdeniya, V. I. Bogaswatte and T. K. Karunathilake for representing the provincial swimming team. They achieved 1st, 2nd and 3rd places at the National Sports Festival in 2019, which was held at the Sugathadasa Swimming Stadium. Achievements A.I.S. Dikdeniya 200M breaststroke – Gold 200m individual medley – Silver 100m breaststroke – Silver 400M im relay – Silver 400m freestyle relay – Silver V.I. Bogaswatte 50M butterfly – Bronze 50m butterfly – Bronze 400m freestyle relay – Silver T.K. Karunathilake 50M breaststroke – Bronze 200m breaststroke – Bronze A. I. S. Dikdeniya holds a record for the highest number of Swimming achievements (men’s) from Central Province! Our best wishes to these swimmers and the swimming team in their future meets.
The Trinity Swimming squad became overall champions at the Central Province Swimming Meet organised by St. Anthony’s College Kandy, held on 1st December 2019 at the St. Anthony’s College Swimming pool. The Trinity squad also won the age groups championship trophy and became novices runners-up at the same meet. The swimmers A.I.S. Dikdeniya and V.I. Bogaswatte were over 16 age group champions, while Y.T. Jayasuriya became under 10 novices champion at the meet.
Two of our swimmers, H.O.C. Hiripitiya and T. K. Karunathilake were awarded Central Province Colours in recognition of their performance. The award ceremony was held on 25th June at the Central Provincial Council Auditorium. This event was attended by Mr Maithri Gunaratna, the Governor of Central Province (and President’s Counsel). The award ceremony was held in relation to the 44th All Island National sports festival which took place at the Sugathadasa Swimming Complex in Colombo last year, where Hiripitiya and Karunathilake placed in their signature swimming events, 1500m freestyle and 200m breaststroke. Osanda Hiripitya also won College Colours for swimming previously. We congratulate these two swimmers for this great achievement and we would also like to mention that the overall performance of the Trinity swimming team has been admirably good: They were placed at the National & Junior National Short Course Swimming Championship this year, along with many other achievements in 2018 as well.
We had our Swimming team participating at the National & Junior National Short Course Swimming Championship which was held from 6th to 9th April 2019 at the Isipathana College swimming pool. Thisura Karunatilake placed 3rd at 50m breast stroke while Avon Dikdeniya won the 3rd place at 200m breast stroke. We congratulate the team and the coach for their effort and participation at this event.
The Trinity College Swimming team participated in the Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championship 2018 held from June 6th to June 10th at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming pool. This event brought in many Schools from around the country to compete and win the 45th coveted All Island Schools Swimming Championship. The Trinity Swimming squad achieved 4th position in the boys’ category, scoring 236 points. The results are as follows: Under 9 E. S. In an amazing display of swimming prowess at the 54th MILO/PRAM Invitational Age Group Swimming Championship 2018 held in Malaysia between 13th to the 20th of March, Mindiya Jayasinghe was able to bag bronze in his signature event, the freestyle. Reputed in his home town Kandy as one of the swimmers with the smoothest freestyle technique, Mindiya Jayasinghe was able to bring fame to College and Country as he competed against other seasoned swimmers and emerged third at this international event. Master Jayasinghe was the swimming Captain of Trinity College for the year 2017, and he was also awarded a Lion, the most coveted award a sportsman at Trinity can receive, for his exceptional achievements.
