Beginnings of the Choir
The Trinity College Choir records its beginnings in 1872 with Mr. Clement Edwards as the founder Choir Master, being one of the four teaching staff of Rev. Collins. As a school founded on Christian values and traditions, Christian worship played a vital role with the Choir leading the singing at morning services at the Holy Trinity Church. These beginnings developed to a rich choral tradition over the years that extended to operettas, public performances, broadcasts and digital productions.
Vision and Mission
The Choir’s mission is to lead the witness of worship at Trinity and to inspire others to appreciate the spirit of music throughout the school and in the community locally and globally. The vision it drives towards is the formation of young lives to grow goodness and camaraderie while striving towards excellence as Choristers and exemplary citizens.
Choral Tradition and Structure
The choral traditions of the choir span the musical periods from medieval to modern. The performances cover the spectrum of genres from classical to jazz. It is structured as an 8-part choir of SATB, due to its significant amount of a cappella singing, consisting of boys aged nine to nineteen.
Annual Renditions
While the role of the choir is a weekly engagement throughout the years, there are three traditional public events for every term. Every year people flock to the Chapel for ‘A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols’ in the 3rd Term, and ‘The Cross and Triumph of Christ’ in the 1st Term. A concert of secular music ‘Mind Your Music’ is held in the Main Hall in the 2nd Term. In addition, various other performances take place in collaboration with other choirs and musicians.
The Leadership
A Chorister is appointed annually as the Choir Leader with few other Choristers as committeemen. The Choirmaster and the accompanist are the staff members of the Choir.
