On Monday 27th February, the Principal of Wesley College, Mr Avanka Fernando, along with the Chaplain and three senior members of the 1st XV, paid a visit to Trinity College Kandy. During this visit, they apologised for the events at the very end of the 1st XV Match between the two schools on Friday 24th February 2017 at CR&FC and presented a ball to the Trinity captain, Nathan Yee, signed by their Captain and Vice Captain, as a gesture of friendship and goodwill.
Trinity were happy to accept the apology, and to assure the delegation from Wesley College that this isolated incident does not affect the relationship between our two great schools – this remains as cordial and positive as ever. Indeed, we hope that this unfortunate event will actually lead to our friendship becoming even closer; based, as it is, on shared Christian values and good sportsmanship.
The Principal of Trinity College, Mr Andrew Fowler-Watt, would like to acknowledge the excellent gesture made by the Principal of Wesley College in coming up to Trinity as well as by the quick way in which he publicly acknowledged Wesley’s responsibility. Furthermore, he wishes their 1st XV all the very best for the rest of the season.
