Cooking Up Victory: Trinity Chefs at Culinary Champions 2024

Reviewed by the Culinary and Hospitality Club

The Culinary and Hospitality Club of Trinity College Kandy recently made an impressive mark at the Culinary Champions Competition, which took place from October 31st to November 2nd at Sashas Uyana. This prestigious event was attended by professional chefs and renowned hotel schools, with Trinity College standing out as the only school participating in such a high-caliber setting. Trinity’s young cooks displayed outstanding talent by winning many accolades in a variety of competitions.

Trinity’s bright young chefs, including Udantha Jayasinghe, Thevan Ratnatilake, Menath Kahapola, and Shaluka Herath, won bronze medals in the “Team Challenge” competition. The evaluators were truly impressed with their teamwork and culinary innovation. Tashane Weerakkody, Yethmin Wickremasinghe, Eshan Marasinghe, and Asama Ranawala earned Silver Medals in the “Team Challenge”.  We congratulate Tashane and Asama who were among the top three performances in the silver medal standard.

Mrs. I. C. K. Hettiarachchi and her assistant Asama Ranawana displayed remarkable inventiveness in the “Creative Table Setup” competition, earning them the second place in the bronze medal standard. Meanwhile, Nethula Hettihewage demonstrated his skill in mixology, winning a bronze medal in the “Iced Mock Tail” competition. We proudly announce that Shanesh Bandara’s impressive cooking won him a gold medal in the “Hot Pasta” Competition.

The “Young Chef” competition was another successful initiative for Trinity, with Adithya Hettiarachchi and Risindu Nikahatiya winning bronze medals for their excellent dishes. The squad continued to impress throughout the event. Dinol Ranawana’s culinary expertise earned him a silver medal in the “Young Chef” category. Shanesh Bandara’s performance was one of the competition’s highlights as he won another gold medal for the “Young Chef” competition.

Shanesh Bandara who showcased outstanding abilities in culinary art received the “Most Promising Young Chef” award. This was the very first time in Trinity history that a student received such recognition for his culinary talents. “I believe in my abilities and gave my best, knowing live cooking can be challenging. My advice to others is to focus on your own creation – strive to make it excellent and visually appealing.” Said Sanesh, speaking about his experience at Culinary Champions 2024.

The young cooks of Trinity College have regularly demonstrated culinary brilliance under the leadership of Mrs. Indika Hettiarachchi, Teacher-in-Charge of the Culinary and Hospitality Club. Their victories at the Culinary Champions Competition demonstrate their hard work, creativity, and dedication to this art and trade. The Trinity College community expresses heartfelt congratulations to all participants on their outstanding achievements, marking yet another milestone in the school’s heritage of excellence.
