On Saturday I woke up very excited, “At last the day has arrived. Today is the start of the 12th National Cubboree”, I thought. It was something I was waiting for a long time.
Finally, my favourite day has arrived. There were two feeling about visiting Siyane College. One was sad and the other was happy. It was sad because I’m going to miss my family, but I was happy because I don’t get chances like this every day.
The Cub Scouts of Trinity College got together and went to Veyangoda. It was a very jolly trip and I wasn’t scared of anything because I had three ‘Akelas’ (teachers) with us.
After lunch, we went to Siyane College grounds, where I was amazed to see 7000 Cub Scouts in front of me. In a few moments, His Excellency the President arrived and we started our programme. In the evening we returned to our camping place. After having dinner, we slept.
The following morning, as I got up I took a little time to realize where I was. After having breakfast, we went to the grounds. We did many activities before lunch including the Jungle Book which is very important for a cub.
At school, it was very hard for us to understand the Jungle Book, but here they acted in a way that would print the image in our brain. Then we had lunch and spent our time again on activities.
We were lucky enough to see an exhibition organized by the Navy. Around 4.00 p.m. we ended our activities. There were several programs organized afterwards and with a musical show we ended the day.
That night I was feeling tired. For a second, I wished I was at home in my cosy bed. After a bath, we all were refreshed. The fun and joy we had are hard to explain. No one wanted to sleep but had no choice, reluctantly we closed our eyes on the beddings we brought from home.
The next day we had breakfast and went to the grounds. For our delight, the programme ended in a few hours and returned home.
After I returned home, I told my whole family how nice and adventurous the trip was. We Cub Scouts are very thankful to our dedicated teachers who were with us all the time. I wish that the Sri Lanka Scout Association organizes events of this nature more often.
