The grade 5 students went on a hiking trip to Hanthana on the 22nd of February 2020 with few teachers and the Acting Principal, Dr Nalin Wikramanayake.
Following is a review of the trip done by one of the participants:
Hanthana mountain range is made up with various mountain peaks and it is a popular destination among the mountain hikers in Sri Lanka.
We were supposed to leave school at 6.30 am but it started to rain from early morning. After considering the weather the Principal and the Co-vice Principal decided to leave around 7.30 am.
We all gathered near the basketball court and the Co-vice Principal put us in to ten groups with teachers. We took our breakfast while going in the bus and we reached there around 8 am.
We started hiking in groups with the guidance of the Principal and the staff. While climbing up we collected all the garbage thrown by the previous hikers and cleaned the environment as much as we could. Some children brought cameras and took pictures and some brought binoculars as well. We saw birds and few purple faced monkeys too.
We climbed right to the top of the mountain through a small path. We took some sticks to climb up since the path was slippery. After climbing up, we checked the surroundings from the other side of the mountain. We saw the Dalada Maligawa from the top of the mountain and the Kandy city too.
Then we started to climb down through another path while enjoying the beautiful scenery. We really enjoyed the hike to Hanthana mountain range. We reached school around 12.30 pm.
I would like to thank our Principal, Co-vice Principal and the teachers for organizing a thrilling adventure for us.
