The 72nd Independence Day celebrations were held at the Junior School on the 5th of February 2020 with all students and teachers participating in the events of the day.
First, to commence the celebrations the National flag was hoisted by the Co-Vice Principal at the quadrangle. Thereafter, the programme carried on in the hall and starting with a song by the Junior School Oriental Music Group.
After their beautiful performance, a brief documentary video was shown to educate the students how Sri Lanka functioned during the time of kings who protected the people throughout the country’s history. Also a presentation was shown about the period under the Portuguese and Dutch rule.
Afterwards, talented students performed a drama about Veera Puran Appu and Wariyapola Sri Sumangala Thero showing the struggle for freedom in the history of Sri Lanka. This was enjoyed greatly by everyone as the actors gave a great performance.
The programme ended with the Co-Vice Principal addressing the students on the significance of the Independence day.
