The Trinity College Athletics Team emerged Overall Champions at the Central Province Athletics Meet 2022. The meet was held at the Bogambara Stadium on the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th of September 2022.
The meet featured schools from all across the Central Province representing 15 Zones.
The athletes were selected to participate for this meet through their Zonal Athletic Meets which were held earlier in the year.
It is noteworthy that the Trinity Athletics Team last achieved this feat 18 years ago. It is no easy task to win the Provincial Meet, as their is a tight competition from the other schools that take part.
Walala A Ratnayake Maha Vidyala was in the limelight for over a decade, and Trinity College stole back the spotlight in the T150 Sesquicentennial Anniversary Year.
The standings of the school’s were as follows,
1st – Trinity College, Kandy – 170 Points
2nd – Walala A Ratnayake Maha Vidyala – 122 Points
3rd – Ambagamuwa Maha Vidayala – 88 Points
The athletes who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in this meet, will participate in the National Competition later on in the year.
The team led by Master Vivek Hettiarachchi would like to thank the coaches Mr. Ariyarathne, Mr. N. Bandara and Mr. Lalith Rathnayake and the Master in Charge Mr. Jagath Kalugampitiya for their continuous support and guidance.
