Junior School Sinhala Day 2022

The Sinhala Day of the Junior School was held on the 28th of September 2022, at the Junior School Hall.

The event was organised by the Sinhala Language Faculty of the Junior School to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes of students in grades 3 – 5 toward the Sinhala language.

The programme line-up for the day began with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp by the distinguished invitees.

The oratory skills displayed by the winners of Grades 3, 4, and 5 won the hearts of everyone.

The drama based on an old Sinhala proverb gave the opportunity for the student to display their acting skills and also to work together as a group, while the audience enjoyed watching it. The mesmerizing singing of the Oriental Music group entertained everyone in the hall. The little dancers surprised everyone with their performance to the song ‘School’.

Another highlight of the event was the presentation done by the Chief Guest Mrs. P. Randeniya, the Head of the Sinhala Language Faculty – Upper School who nicely elaborated on the beauty of the Sinhala language.

The event was graced by the Chaplain Rev. Fr. Shelton Samadanam, the Principal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, the Vice Principal Mr Krishanthan Antonydas and the Co-Vice Principal Mr Ananda Marasinghe.

  • #OnThisDay Did you know? Rev. R. W. Stopford, born in 1901, led Trinity College, Kandy as Principal from 1935 to 1941.

From 1935 to 1941, he guided the College during a time of reform. He later became Bishop of London and was appointed Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (KCVO) in 1973.

His final words to the Trinity community remain powerful even today:
“Think Fairly, Build Bravely, Love Widely.”

  • In the stillness beneath its soaring roof and gentle light, we are reminded of humility, reflection, and renewal.

As the season of Lent begins, may this sacred space invite us to pause, turn inward, and walk forward with grace!
