VORTEX Rendered Motionless – The Astro Quiz in Action

Review by Thusath Dissanayake

The Astronomical Society of TCK has been busy planning and scheduling their activities to engage team members in a positive yet nurturing framework.

After a series of virtual quizzes in which both A&B teams of the Astronomical Society participated, they sailed to the final round, which was a happy achievement.

The two teams voyaged to Colombo on the 16th to compete in the finals against the forerunners at the Sirimavo Bandaranaike College Colombo 7. The participants this year were:

Team A

Master Methul Dissanayake (Captain, Cosmology)

Master Amoda Kossalawatte (Rocketry)

Master Himaru Abeygunarathne (Astrophysics)

Master M.S. Umar (Observational Astronomy)

Master Thusath Dissanayake (General Astronomy)

Team B

Master Adhithya Herath (Captain, Cosmology)

Master Hiranga Suraweera (Astrophysics)

Master Disath Jayasinghe (Observational Astronomy)

Master T.Humrushan (Rocketry)

Master Chirath Jayasinghe (GeneraLAstronomy)

After the concluding phase, anticipation mounted as each team awaited their positions.

TCK made their alma mater proud with Team A receiving  a 2nd Runner up position, while  Team B, despite being the youngest team in the  competition,   clinched an impressive 6th place beating over 30 teams in the process.

TCK acknowledges the highest ranking of  Master Chirath Jayasinghe (Team B) and Master Thusath Dissanayake in the General Astronomy category within the finals and preliminary competitions respectively.

Overall, the culmination of a massive, combined team effort garnered impressive results for the Astronomical Society’s quiz teams.

A special mention of gratitude goes out to our generous sponsors Dr. Viduranga Waisundara and Dr. Himal Suraweera for assisting the teams.  A special note of thanks also goes out to Mr. Jayasinghe for accompanying the crew to Colombo

  • What did the construction of the Trinity College Chapel look like a hundred years ago?

Only a handful of photographs survive from those early years. Using modern AI video generation powered by @googlegemini 's Veo 3.1, we have brought these quiet fragments back to life, offering a glimpse of how the Chapel slowly took shape through patience, craftsmanship, and vision.

We hope this reconstruction helps you appreciate the vision, labour, and devotion that shaped one of Trinity’s most treasured landmarks.
