Unleashing the Future with AI

Review by Nahidh Naseem, Disalana Jayasooriya and Sharukh Fairooz

In a ground-breaking collaboration with 360 labs, Trinity College Kandy recently hosted a transformative AI workshop, offering students a deep dive into the dynamic world of Artificial Intelligence (AI). This initiation marked a departure from conventional educational approaches, providing an immersive experience that seamlessly blended theoretical knowledge with practical, hands-on application.

Under the expert guidance of two distinguished engineers, Chamath Kandambi and Yuneth Wijenake, and other experts from 360 labs, students embarked on a comprehensive exploration of AI, unraveling its theoretical foundations and discovering the intricate web of real-world applications. The workshop was not merely an academic exercise; it was an experiential journey that aimed to demystify the complexities of AI while instilling a sense of curiosity and excitement.

One of the distinctive features of the workshop was its hands-on approach. Recognizing the importance of practical application in reinforcing theoretical concepts, each participant received a carefully curated robotic kit. These kits were not just components; they were gateways to understanding the tangible impact of AI on robotics. The students, divided into groups, enthusiastically delved into the assembly process, experiencing first-hand the fusion of hardware and AI principles.

The hands-on component of the workshop served a dual purpose. It not only fortified the participants’ understanding of AI but also nurtured teamwork and collaboration. As students collectively worked on building their robots, they encountered and tackled challenges together, fostering a collaborative spirit that mirrors the dynamics of the evolving field of AI development and implementation.

The presence and expertise of Chamath Kandambi, Yuneth Wijenake and their team added a significant dimension to the workshop. Their guidance not only enriched the theoretical sessions but also provided valuable insights into the practical applications of AI in the real world. Students had the privilege of learning from industry experts, gaining a perspective that extends beyond textbooks and into the cutting-edge developments in the field.

The showcase event at the culmination of the workshop, held on December 14th, was a celebration of innovation and ingenuity. Each group presented their uniquely designed and assembled robots, showcasing not only technical proficiency but also the practical applications of AI in addressing real-world challenges. The pride and enthusiasm radiating from the students during this showcase were a testament to the success of the workshop in igniting a passion for AI and robotics.

Beyond the technical aspects, the workshop also underscored Trinity College Kandy’s commitment to providing a holistic education. Education at our institution goes beyond the transmission of knowledge; it is about fostering a spirit of innovation, critical thinking, and adaptability. The AI workshop, with its emphasis on experiential learning, aligns with our vision of preparing students not just for current academic challenges but for the ever-evolving landscape of the future.

Looking ahead, TCK is poised to continue the journey into innovation. The success of the AI workshop serves as a catalyst for future initiatives that push the boundaries of education and technology. Our commitment towards providing an environment that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and technological literacy remains unwavering.

In conclusion, the AI workshop at Trinity College Kandy was more than an event; it was a testament to our dedication in shaping well-rounded individuals ready to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the future. Join us in celebrating not just the success of the workshop but the ongoing commitment to excellence and innovation at Trinity College Kandy—a place where education extends beyond boundaries and where the future is shaped by the relentless pursuit of knowledge and discovery.
