Trinity College has always been a hub for talented artists, and this year’s Inter-house Art Competition proved just that. Hosted on the 5th of April at the Abeyratne-Jeyaraj terrace and the Napier corridor, the event welcomed enthusiastic participants from both the Upper School and Middle School divisions. It is certain that Trinity has a long standing tradition of fostering, appreciating and preserving the artistic talents of Trinitians past and present. The introduction of The David Paynter Memorial Trophy; a new accolade given to the house that rise victorious from the competition; added a special significance to this competition, honoring the memory of such a notable Trinity artist. Along with this, the young aspiring artist from each category who proved himself worthy of being the best from the best is awarded the title of ‘The Best Artist of The Year’ along with a medal entangled with its very much deserving bragging rights.
This year the competition gave its first priority to the minds of the artists allowing them to let their imagination run wild through each brush stroke on their canvases, without restricting them to any theme or subject matter. This not only celebrated artistic expression but also promoted a sense of camaraderie and healthy competition among the houses.
The atmosphere during the competition was filled with excitement, as students and teachers eagerly participated and supported their respective houses which reflected the vibrant artistic community here at Trinity College.

None of this would have been possible without the endless artistic guidance and supervision of our very own Mr. Saman Ratnayake; the Mater in charge of the Trinity College Art Circle and the tireless commitment of Mast. Nilanga Meegahakumbura and his team of excellent colleagues comprised of Mast. Oshitha Dealwis, Mast. Amar Abdullah, Mast. Seth Wickramanayaka, Mast. Visura Ariyawansa, Mast. Minidu Navarathna and Mast. Charith Ekanayaka, without whom the competition would not have matched up to this level of splendor. Last but certainly not least, a special shout-out goes to the
Coordinator of the Arts for Life Aesthetic Forum, Mr. Kanishka Samarasundara and the Director of the Trinity College Co-Curricular Enrichment Initiative, Mr. Wasana Dissanayake for their incredible contribution in making this event a success in such a caliber.
