Creating a new streak of success, greatly complementing past achievements of the same group of students, young entrepreneurs from the Trinity College Technopreneurship Club secured first place at the final round of the Study Australia Entrepreneurship Challenge 2025. This annual event, organised by the Australian Trade and Investment Commission (AUSTRADE) under the Australian Government, aims to recognise and steadily support up-and-coming entrepreneurs from South Asian countries and their ideas with the correct resources and assistance for a better tomorrow.
As the team arrived at Cinnamon Life, Colombo, on the morning of the 29th of June, they prepared the props for what was to be the winning pitch. The three Trinitians representing “Team Trixel” — Master Chirath Jayasinghe, Master Chaniru Senhas, and Master Rehan Anandakumar — worked tirelessly for over a month to develop their business idea. Interestingly, the concept, centred on sustainability and affordability, was sparked by a quick idea a few months before the challenge began.
The final round of the challenge began at 10 a.m. and featured five teams: Gateway College Colombo, Springfield College Nugegoda, Royal Institute Colombo, Musaeus College Colombo, and Trinity College Kandy. Team Trixel presented fourth in the line-up, delivering their pitch with confidence.
Following the presentations and a short tea break, the much-anticipated results were announced:
- Second Runners-up: Springfield College, Nugegoda
- First Runners-up: Gateway College, Colombo
- Winners: Trinity College, Kandy
This victory marks a significant achievement for both Team Trixel and the Technopreneurship Club, adding to the growing legacy of innovation and entrepreneurship at Trinity College Kandy.
It is also one of the first fruits of Trinity’s T150 STEM, AI & Robotics Lab — a space designed to nurture tech innovation and creativity among students. The win reflects the school’s dedication to fostering a culture where Trinitians are encouraged to think creatively, innovate boldly, and transform ideas into sustainable solutions.
Special appreciation is extended to the Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, Mr. Chatura Subhawickrama, Mr. Wasana Dissanayake, and the parents of the team members for their steadfast support throughout the journey. Sincere thanks also go to Mr. Venura Wijesekara and Mr. Yasassvi Wijesekara for their technical guidance, and to Mrs. Susanthi, Lecturer in Chemistry at the University of Peradeniya, for providing access and expert input that helped the team test and refine their innovation.
