The prestigious KIM Debater Generation 9, organised by the Kingswood Islamic Majlis, kicked off on the 1st of June, setting the stage for an exciting showcase of talent, capability, and knowledge. As anticipation built throughout the tournament, one team stood ready to make their mark—Trinity College’s exceptional team of five young debaters. Representing Trinity College with passion and pride were:
Master Atheeb Rifai
Master Ayyash AbuBakar
Master Arham Dhilfowzy
Master Shabeeb Hassan
Master Rayyan Marzukdeen
From the very first round—where Trinity faced off against Badhrudeen Mahmud Girls’ College, Kandy—the team made a lasting impression. Their sharp reasoning, confident delivery, and calm presence under pressure won over both adjudicators and the audience. Every argument reflected hours of preparation and a deep commitment to excellence.
As the rounds progressed, the excitement only grew. Trinity advanced to the highly anticipated semi-final against St. Anthony’s College, Kandy – true clash of titans from the hill capital. Despite the pressure, Trinity’s debaters delivered bold arguments, composed delivery, and precise rebuttals. Their teamwork, focus, and resilience shone through, earning them a well-deserved place in the final.
The grand finale, held on the 22nd of June at the Kingswood College Auditorium, was nothing short of electrifying. Facing the formidable Loyal Ladies’ College, Trinity stepped into the arena not just to compete, but to make history. With minds sharp and hearts steady, they gave it their all in a gripping and intense debate. Each point was delivered with clarity and confidence, and the back-and-forth was both powerful and respectful.
In the end, after eight long years, Trinity College emerged as the champions of KIM Debater Generation 9. This victory was more than just a trophy – it was a celebration of hard work, unity, and determination. It marked the return of Trinity’s name to the top, inspiring future generations of speakers and leaders.
Adding to the glory, Master Rayyan Marzukdeen was awarded Best Speaker of the Final Round, and Master Arham Dhilfowzy earned the title of Overall Best Speaker of the Competition—both well-deserved recognitions of their outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
These achievements are the result of dedication, patience, and countless hours of preparation. But behind every successful team is a strong support system. This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the constant encouragement of the Mistress-in-Charge of the College Islamic Students’ Movement, Mrs F. D. Farzan, whose mentorship was invaluable. Her guidance and presence were deeply felt throughout the tournament.
Special appreciation also goes out to Mrs Fathima Majeed, Mr Zaruk Shan, and Mr Aslam Marikkar. Their advice, time, and commitment to the team’s growth played a vital role behind the scenes.
Trinity College’s journey at KIM Debater Generation 9 is a true testament to teamwork, perseverance, and leadership. This wasn’t just a win – it was the revival of a legacy. As our lions roar into the future, they carry not only a trophy but also the pride of a College that dares to lead, speak, and inspire.
