The college atmosphere was filled with excitement on the morning of February 25th for the much-anticipated road race, which was held as the opening event of the Inter-House Sports Meet 2022.
After days of intense training, the athletes gathered around the starting point in front of the swimming pool gate fashioning their newly threaded house jerseys. The school boys were standing along the route to encourage the athletes as they all set out to run the 4km marathon. A total of 75 participated in the race, with 15 athletes from each house.
The route was as follows:
The race began from the Trinity College Swimming Pool gate and from there the athletes ran up the Sri Dalada Thapowana Vihara Mawatha (past Udawattakele) and turned right to Sri Dhamma Dhassi Mawatha (Lexicon International School). The athletes then went past the Vidyartha College Primary School and up Old Matale Road (Greenhill International). After climbing up the steep hill they continued through Lady Gordon’s Drive and down the same path that they started off to finish with a lap around the Junior School ground.
The podium finishes were as follows:
1. Sadhil Ranaweera (CBH)
2. Savan Aluvihare (Simithraaratchy)
3. Rahul Prashan Sathyasivam (CBH)
The overall results were as follows:
1st Place – Central Boarding House
2nd Place – Lemuel House
3rd Place – Garrett House
4th Place – Simithraaratchy House
5th Place – Oorloff House
The athletes, along with the officials would like to thank the Sick Room staff for taking care of the medical requirements. We look forward to a great final day of the Inter-House Sports Meet on the 18th of March at Asgiriya.
