Trinity College, Kandy marked a significant milestone with the first anniversary of its revived HNB Student Banking Unit. Since its relaunch in February 2025, the unit has reaffirmed the College’s commitment to nurturing practical life skills alongside academic excellence. The achievement was celebrated at a recognition ceremony attended by senior representatives of Hatton National Bank (HNB) and members of the College community. The event honoured the Student Bankers who managed daily operations with responsibility and integrity.
Re-established under the leadership of the Principal, Very Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara (Prior OSB), the unit provides students with early exposure to personal finance. Operating as a student-led hub within the College, Junior Bankers handled deposits and promoted a culture of saving, successfully surpassing operational targets for the year. During the ceremony, Mr Danushka Rajapaksha, Assistant Vice President of HNB and an Old Boy, addressed the gathering on the importance of financial discipline. The Principal expressed his sincere appreciation to HNB for their continued partnership. The event was further enriched by the presence of Olympian Kyle Abeysinghe, who shared an inspiring message on perseverance and excellence with the Advanced Level batch.
The heart of the celebration focused on the Student Bankers, whose achievements reflect the value of experiential learning in building confidence. The following student managers were awarded certificates and badges in recognition of their dedicated leadership and service: Master K.A.O.R. Kulathunga, Master N.A. Gamage, Master G.G.S. Perera, Master D.T. Gamage, Master T.H.K. Liyanage, Master V.R. Wijerathne, Master W.S.R. Fernando, Master D.L. Alexander, and Master K.G.M.P.J. Wijerathne.
The College extends its gratitude to those who contributed to this success, including the late Mr Prasanna Palihawadena for initiating the project, and Mr Indika Ekanayake for his role in the revival. Special thanks are also due to the HNB delegation, including Mr Upul Adikari, Ms Gimhani Alahakoon, Ms Ruwanthika Perera, and Mr Kumar Jairaj. Finally, the College recognises the guidance of the Teacher-in-Charge, Mrs Suneetha Kumari, and Master-in-Charge, Mr Shanaka Ariyarathne, alongside the support of the Vice Principal, Co-Vice Principal, and Finance Manager. With strong foundations now in place, Trinity College, Kandy looks forward to further expanding opportunities for students to grow as financially responsible citizens.
