The U18 and U20 football teams of Trinity College emerged overall runners-up at the Champion Trophy Football Carnival, held from 27 to 30th December 2018 in Banglore, Karnataka. The carnival was organized by the Youth International Sports Academy of Banglore. Trinity played with division two clubs and the the teams were guided by Mr Sanoj Srinath (coach). The U20 side was captained by Nadarajah Divyan and the U18 by C.L. Muthunayake. The annual Trinity vs Royal Football Encounter took place on 10th November 2018 at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium, Pallekele. The 1st XI team of Trinity emerged as champions winning the J R Jayawardena Challenge Trophy with a score of 3 – nil. The U12 team also won, while Trinity lost the U14 match. The U16 match was drawn. The 2nd annual football encounter was held at Dorrayappa Stadium Jaffna on 24th of October 2018. Under 14, under 16, under 18 and the 1st XI teams took part in this encounter. Last year, U14, 18 and the 1st XI teams managed to draw their matches and the U16 team was able to get a win in their very first encounter. This year Trinity put on some excellent performances, where the U16 and the 1st XI teams got their teams to victory, and the U14 team managed to draw their game by scoring 2 goals from behind. Meanwhile, the U18 team had a tough time, with the team missing their good eight players because of their O L examinations, they lost their match by giving one goal away. Our congratulations to Master Mohammed Shan, Grade 6, (second from left in the main image) who was one of the four boys and two girls selected out of thousands of participants to attend the Milo ‘Road to Barcelona’ four day training camp hosted by FC Barcelona. The ‘Road to Barcelona’ is an initiative by Milo in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Schools’ Football Association to identify and develop local football talent. The camp will be held from 1st to 3rd of October and will include Escola’ football clinic, technical skills development on the pitch, ‘Camp Nou’ classroom sessions, museum visit, and city tour. They will meet children from other participating countries such as Trinidad and Tobago, Panama, Vietnam, Thailand, New Zealand, Indonesia, Australia, and Pakistan.
Trinity’s football first XI participated in the U20 provincial football tournament held from the 6th to the 15th of May 2018 at the Bogambara grounds. The Trinity team was lead by the captain, Master N. Diviyan and was assisted by the vice captain Master M.M. Sameer. The competitions began early in the morning at 8.30a.m. and a total of 30 schools participated. The first match for Trinity was against Jabaar College, Galagedara, Trinity won the match scoring penalties. The goals were scored by M. Akeel, M.F.M. Fayaz, T. Liyanage and S. Odayar. They went on to win the quarter-finals against Wikramabahu Vidyalaya. This also ended up in a tie with a score of 0-0 at full time. Once again Trinity won on penalties, the goals were scored by M.M. Sameer, M.F.M. Fayaz, T. Liyanage and S. Odayar. For the semi-finals where they playing against Zahira College, Gampola. It was a very close game that ended up in a tie 1-1. Trinity lost on penalties. The goals were scored by M.F.M. Fayaz, T. Liyanage and S. Odayar. Trinity played the final match, competing to for 3rd place, against Dharmaraja College, Kandy. Trinity College won 2-0 a, the goals were scored by M.M. Sameer and M. Akeel, and were awarded the “Runners-up” title in the U20 Provincial Football tournament.
