Completing 15 years of existence, and as the busiest club of the school, the Media Unit covered 85 events and occasions throughout 2017, providing sounds, photography, videography, multimedia and announcing facilities.

Besides being part of every major event at Trinity, one the main duties of the Media Unit is to provide technical assistance to every school assembly, religious gathering and workshop.

With an intake of new members for the club, the Media Unit set to work at the beginning of January covering major events like the “The Inter-House Athletic Meet 2017”, “Upper School Prize Giving 2017”, and concluding our duties with the College Carol Service, “A Festival of Nine lessons and Carols 2017”.

Apart from the usual duties, this year the club focused more on its management and internal organization rather than hosting events of its own.

However, the Media Unit did have few highlights during the year.  One of the major achievements of 2017 was the Media Unit developing the mobile app ‘Trinity College Media’. This is now available for the public on Google Play Store and will soon be on Apple Store as well.

The app is mostly focused on College sport updates, where users get to watch any match played by Trinity on a live stream, as well as instant updates on scores. The app also includes a separate section for photography where every album posted on our Facebook page is shown as a link in the app. We hope to develop the app with more new features in the coming year. We also extend our gratitude towards the Principal and the IT Director for guiding us and approving this project promptly.

Journalism was introduced as a new section to the Media Unit in 2017, where most of the events (covered by the photography team) are reviewed by the members of the club and published on the College website. An article for the “Trinity – St. Thomas’ Rugby Encounter 2017”  was one of our first reviews, written by a senior member of the club. We hope to increase our reviews and publications in the future.

The Media Unit also had a live telecast of the Centenary Big Match 2017 in collaboration with the Antonian Media Unit, this was live streamed through the Media App.

As an administrative improvement, at the beginning of 2017, a new ‘Online’ request form was introduced which all club and sports event organizers are required to complete whenever they require a service from the Media Unit. The form is available online through Google Forms. While maintaining the online forms, we have also kept the same printed ‘hard-copy’ of the form in the Library for the convenience of staff members.

Another administrative improvement was to introduce a secure online project management and communication platform to manage the Media Units internal communications, along with appointing members on duty, discussing upcoming events &etc. This feature is still being maintained as a pilot program but we hope to have the clubs workflow to be fully online based in the future.

The Media Unit continues to maintain its official Facebook page and Instagram Page alongside uploading all the photography albums online. Members of the club are also involved in writing events reviews for the College website and providing necessary images for event updates. We hope to have all our albums published on the College Flickr page for high resolution viewing in the future.

The members of the Media Unit along with its committee wishes to acknowledge all the staff members, students and members of the clubs, societies and sport activities for working with us, and especially Mr. K.G. Alahakoon for being a source of strength to the club throughout the year, providing the required guidance and advice for all its members.

As Trinity College modernises and increases its use of technology, the Media Unit expects to be a part of its development, encouraging young Trinitians to experience and learn about media in all its technical aspects while being engaged in all the major and minor events of the College.

  • What did the construction of the Trinity College Chapel look like a hundred years ago?

Only a handful of photographs survive from those early years. Using modern AI video generation powered by @googlegemini 's Veo 3.1, we have brought these quiet fragments back to life, offering a glimpse of how the Chapel slowly took shape through patience, craftsmanship, and vision.

We hope this reconstruction helps you appreciate the vision, labour, and devotion that shaped one of Trinity’s most treasured landmarks.
