It is inarguable that the environment is one of the most important resources we have. The Trinity College Kandy Environment Pioneer Brigade [ EPB ] was launched in 2008 with the sole purpose of being a highly effective club which is responsible for the promotion of good environmental practices.
According to a unique concept by the Central Environment Authority, The Environment Pioneer programme introduced in 1984 is now a regular among schools. The service which is contributed to the environment through this programme is a very distinctive one.
Revamping the activities of the EPB of Trinity College, a Special awareness programme was held on the 29th of March 2023 with the sole purpose of informing students about the importance on environment conservation which will inevitably result in a greater responsibility and love towards the environment.
This awareness sessions were held simultaneously in the College main hall for the students who are studying in Sinhala Medium, and for the students who are studying in Tamil the workshop was held in Tamil medium for the first time at the Napier House. The opening speech was delivered by the president of the club Master Hansana Pathirana while the event was compered by Master Nimuthu Pathiraja. Next was the much-awaited speech by the chief guest Mrs. C. Thoradeniya who is a district environmental officer at the Central environment authority. She highlighted the importance of environment preservation and the importance of joining the Environment Pioneer Brigade. The vote of thanks was delivered by Master Nemindhara Naththarampotha giving a fitting end to the day’s proceedings.
The EPB is grateful to Mrs. C. Thoradeniya for her presence and the inspiring speech which empowered us and Mrs. Buvanalochini Sathyawelan, for her awe-inspiring workshop which generated a new feel of responsibility towards the environment. We also make it a point to thank the teachers in charge Mrs. Nimesha Wimalasena ,Miss Kaushani Amarasena, Mr. Mohamed Zarook, Mr. Mohamed Inzimam and Mrs. Darshani Abeykon, the Principal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, the Vice Principal Mr. Krishanthan Anthonydas, the headmistress of the middle school Mrs. Krishni George and the PROMWEB collective of TCK. A heartfelt thank you to all the teachers and students who ensured that this event would be a successful one.
