In the modern world, Low Physical fitness levels and non-communicable diseases have extended to a perilously high rate.
With the current eating habits of children aged 14-16 which include excessive fast food and unhealthy sweet treats and the mostly sedentary life cycle which consist of watching television, playing computer games etc. Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) are now prone to be infected to the children under 14, 15 and 16 years of age.
Most Sri Lankan adolescents, (83% of boys 89% of girls) do not satisfy World Health Organization recommendations for physical activity. According to the WHO at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous-intensity physical activity which includes activities that strengthen muscle and bone should be practiced daily by this age category,
If these habits are taken into long-term practice with a set routine, a Socially, Mentally and Physically developed personality will be inducted. In the present-day society the problems which adults face will be minimized due to these exercises which are mandatory to be practiced daily.
Taking into consideration the factors such as 4.5% of children in this age category are obese, Trinity College has scheduled a CrossFit Programme to be held from 5th April 2023 At the Asgiriya International Cricket Stadium from 6:00 am to 7:00 am on a daily basis for a period of 6 months. The principle purpose of this program is to improve the physical fitness levels of the students, to avoid non communicable diseases such as Diabetes and to make a healthy child from all aspects.
The training sessions will consist of Weight Trainings, Ground Exercises, Gym Training and Field exercises. This program will be conducted by a very experienced and qualified physical specialist and an athletic champion, Mr. Bandula Pushpakumara.
