In light of upcoming Athletics meets, including the highly anticipated All-island meet, the Trinity College Kandy Athletics Foundation (TCKAF), in collaboration with experts in the field, conducted a series of two programs for Trinity Athletes.
The motivational and team-building program conducted by renowned speakers Mr. Vidusha Nawaratne and Mr. Shane Ferdinandus, was a transformative experience for all students who participated. Held as part of our preparation for the upcoming All-Island meet, the session was not only designed to inspire, but also to unite us as a cohesive team.
Mr. Nawaratne and Mr. Ferdinandus, with their dynamic and engaging, approach, quickly captured the attention of everyone in the room. Their thought-provoking activities and updated insights resonated deeply with students, offering powerful lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and self-motivation.
One of the key elements of the session was the emphasis on building a unified team spirit. Through interactive games and group discussions, participants were encouraged to step out of their comfort zones, trust one another, and work together toward a common goal. The facilitators skillfully guided students through various team-building exercises, teaching the importance of communication, collaboration, and collective responsibility. These values are not only essential for success in sports but are also critical life lessons that the students will carry forward.
The session also focused on cultivating a winning mindset. Mr. Nawaratne and Mr. Ferdinandus shared their personal journeys of overcoming challenges, reinforcing the idea that true success lies not only in talent but in discipline, resilience, and mental toughness. They instilled in our athletes the belief that with determination and a positive attitude, they can achieve anything they set their minds to—on and off the field.
By the end of the program, it was evident that every student left feeling empowered, motivated, and united as a team. The impact of this session will undoubtedly be felt in the weeks to come, as we approach the highly anticipated All-Island meet. The lessons in teamwork, resilience, and motivation gained through this experience will be instrumental in helping us strive for victory.
The next program was led by international-level athlete Shehan Abeypitiya. He is a Sri Lankan male athlete who won 3 gold medals at the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. Currently, he is regarded as the fastest man in South Asia due to his gold medal for the 100m in the South Asian Games 2010.His extensive experience and insights were invaluable, as he shared his techniques and strategies with us during the session. The opportunity to learn from such a high-caliber athlete was both inspiring and educational, and it proved to be a great experience for everyone involved.
As we prepare to face the challenges of the upcoming meet, we do so with renewed confidence and determination. Thanks to the TCKAF team, Mr. Vidusha Nawaratne, and Mr. Shane Ferdinandus, our athletes are not only better prepared physically but also mentally equipped to excel. This session has been a key part of our journey toward success, and we are more determined than ever to achieve our goals and make our school proud.
