The Trinity College Kandy Badminton teams have been dedicated to reaching a prominent position since 2014. Following a victory in the B Division and a runner-up finish in the A Division in 2016, their commitment to achieving even greater heights has only grown.
From the 17th to 21st of April 2024, the All-Island Under-17 Inter-School Badminton Team Championships took place at St. Thomas’ College, Bandarawela, and the SLA Ratnayake Memorial Indoor Stadium. The competition featured some of the most formidable school teams from across the nation, including St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, St. Anthony’s College Katugastota, Ananda College ‘B’ Team, and Bandarawela Central College.
Trinity College opened the tournament with a match against St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa, securing victories in the first doubles, second doubles, and third singles. In their second match against St. Anthony’s College, Trinity won the first singles, first doubles, and second doubles. The team then went on to triumph over Ananda College ‘B’ Team before concluding the group stage by defeating Bandarawela Central College with a display of skill and determination.
Trinity’s outstanding performance earned them a place in the Super Semifinals of the A Division, where they faced a challenging match against Lyceum International School, Wattala. Despite their best efforts, Trinity narrowly missed advancing to the finals, securing a remarkable third-place finish in the Super A Division at the All-Island Inter-School Under-17 Badminton Team Championships.
This achievement marks a significant milestone for Trinity College’s Badminton team, placing them third out of 105 schools nationwide. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Master-in-Charge, Mr. Shanaka Ariyarathne, Assistant Master-in-Charge, Mr. Rashika Weerasooriya, and Coaches Lasantha Thilakawardana and Shamika Nugaliyaddha for their unwavering support and dedication to the team’s success.
