The National Drum & Dance Troupe of Trinity College Kandy achieved a significant milestone by securing 1st Place in the Bharatha Natyam (பரதநாட்டியம்) category at the All-Island Dancing Competition 2025, held on 26th July at Chandrajothi College, Yakkala.
Being a maiden victory in the history of Bharaths Natyam at TCK, it is a momentous achievement for the performing team, and a valuable cultural landmark for the college.
The troupe competed against many performing teams from across Sri Lanka’s eight provinces, adding depth and value to this accomplishment.
They presented an item in the classical Bharatha Natyam category: Parass Thillana (பரஸ் தில்லானா), which is traditionally performed at the climax of a recital. Renowned for its intricate rhythms, expressive movements, and demanding footwork, Parass Thillana requires a high level of precision, stamina, and grace—all of which the Trinity troupe demonstrated with commendable poise and discipline.
The students who represented Trinity in this event were:
- Wageesh Mahindawansha
- Dinuja Fernando
- Sharlene Bandara
- Mindula Abeywansha
- Dulmina Herath
- Kevan Gunarathne
- Sanditha Wettewa

- Avishka Jayamanna
- Dilitha Wettewa
- Indisa Hettiarachchi
- Isitha Samarasinghe
- Banura Karunarathne

This success was made possible through the dedicated mentorship of Mr Sunil Chandrasiri and Mr Imal Wasagarathne, whose guidance played a vital role in preparing the troupe for this performance. The team is grateful to the College administration, staff, and parents for their unwavering support.
This milestone reflects Trinity’s continued dedication to fostering aesthetic growth. As we celebrate this achievement, we look ahead with inspiration to further enrich Trinity’s culture in the performing arts.
