Once again on the 24th of February 2023, Trinity College turned its head towards a momentous occasion in the calendar year being the annual prize giving of 2022.
The prize giving of 2022 recognises the highest achievers the college has seen during the Sesquicentennial Anniversary of Trinity College Kandy. To the surprise of many, we were introduced a change in the celebration. During the past few years, we did see both the Middle School and Upper School prize giving held separately. Yet, we were reintroduced to a tradition which was seen some time back where both the Middle School and Upper School held their respective prize giving together.
The chief guest was no stranger to Trinity College Kandy. Dr. T. Jayasingam an old boy of the school during the centenary year of Trinity College Kandy. During his schooling years, he achieved the triple crown of being a prefect, library curator and editor.
The proceedings started off with the opening prayer followed by the Principal’s report on the momentous sesquicentennial year of Trinity College.
Afterwards, we were being entertained by a hilarious yet inspiring address by Dr Jayasingam.
After the address, we saw the prize winners finally reap their rewards by collecting it from Mrs Jayasingam.
One of the most awaited of the prize giving, The Best All Round Student of the Middle School and The Ryde Gold Medal was anticipated amongst the attendees.
The Best All Round student of the Middle School was earned by Master T. Humrushan for his performance in and out of the classroom.
The Ryde Gold Medal is the most prestigious award that all Trinitians look forward to earn. For the year 2022 we saw Master L.L. Moragoda winning this prestigious award.
The Vote of Thanks was delivered by the Senior Prefect L.L. Moragoda with the traditional request of a holiday on the Friday following the Prize Giving. Which was then generously granted by the principal.
The celebration concluded with the Principal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB appointing Master A.M. Jameel as the new Senior Prefect for 2023.
