A Tribute to Our Teachers: Trinity Celebrates Teachers’ Day 2025

Article by Chanuth Koswatte (Web Content Team)

Teachers are the backbone of every school. They play a vital role in shaping the lives of students, and their guidance can inspire young minds to achieve great things. For this and many other reasons, teachers truly deserve to be celebrated.

On Monday, 8th October, the School Officers’ Guild of Trinity College, Kandy, organised a special event to honour those who play such a noble and guiding role: our teachers.

The event commenced with ushering by the National Drum and Dance Troupe of Trinity College, followed by the traditional lighting of the oil lamp. This was carried out by teachers representing each section of the school:

  • Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB – Principal
  • Rev. Fr. Shelton Samadanam – Chaplain
  • Mr Krishanthan Antonydas – Vice Principal
  • Mr Ananda Marasinghe – Co-Vice Principal
  • Mrs Krishni George – Representative, Middle School
  • Mr Jason Wijeweera – Representative, IQ Section
  • Mr Sahana Vajirasena – Representative, O/L Section
  • Mr Prabath Gunaratne – Representative, A/L Science & Maths Section
  • Mr Chamith Kumara – Representative, A/L Commerce & Arts Section

The Senior Prefect, Master Shanil Senanayake, also joined in lighting the oil lamp. A prayer followed, in keeping with the College’s tradition.

The first performance was a song by members of the Western Music Society, followed by a video presentation by the Media Unit and the School Officers’ Guild, expressing their appreciation for the teachers. Soon after, School Officer Chamath performed a solo song, and the National Drum and Dance Troupe showcased their skills to the delight of the audience.

The Principal then addressed the gathering with an inspiring message, after which the Senior Prefect delivered the vote of thanks. A token of appreciation was presented to the Principal, reflecting the collective effort of the Middle School students and the School Officers.

Finally, after the singing of the College Song and the National Anthem, the celebration came to a close. This event was a heartfelt tribute to those who guide, nurture, and shape the way students see the world – our dedicated teachers.

At Trinity College, teachers are more than educators; they are mentors, counsellors, and role models who embody the College’s core values of Integrity, Service, Excellence, and Resilience. Through their steadfast commitment and compassion, they uphold the spirit of Trinity, nurturing both the intellect and the character of every young Trinitian, and preparing them to serve the world at large with humility and purpose.
