The Grade 1 Rugby Skills competition took place on the 26th of July at the Junior School grounds.
Started in 2016, the aim of this competition is to develop the basic rugby skills among grade 1 students, so that when they move on to grade 2 they should have the necessary skills to start playing Rippa Rugby straight away.
The following skills were tested:
- Side pass (Passing the ball sideways without throwing)
- Side throw
- Run and keep the ball in the middle and on the way back pick the ball and pass it on.
- Run and keep the ball near a cone and run and tap the next boy so he picks the ball and passes it on
- Zig-zag running with the ball and pass it on
It is interesting to note that the youngsters in grade 1 were practising for this competition from term 1 this year.
At the end of the day, these little ruggerites went home with smiles and memories.
