The Lions of the 1XI Hockey pride of Trinity took on their S. Thomas’ counterpart for the prestigious Neville de Alwis Trophy. The much-anticipated 20th edition of the encounter unfolded in a gripping contest at the Big Club ground, Mt. Lavinia on the 10th of September 2024.
A grueling 45 minutes of play saw a tense back and forth of goals, forcing both teams to fight up until the last moment of play, yet in the end the brawl was left unsettled, with a score of 2-2. The final result, a draw, called for both teams to be declared Joint Champions of the trophy.
The team’s performance was a culmination of the strenuous effort put into sharpening their abilities and unwillingness to let go. M.R.M Arkam was awarded the Most Valuable Player for scoring both goals for Trinity, his standout performance helped the lions hold on to the trophy.
Finally we must thank and acknowledge the hard work put in by the coaches Mohomad Rifaz and Mohomad Ashraff alongside the MIC Mr Mahesh Udurawana for contributing to the continual success of the hockey team.
This encounter is one that helps define the brotherhood entwined in rivalry that either school holds to the highest standard, pushing one another to achieve the greatest possible and fueling the spirit of the students and the players.
