The All-Island School Games 2024 Weightlifting Championships, organized by the Ministry of Education, concluded this past weekend at Royal College, Polonnaruwa, delivering a thrilling display of strength, determination, and sportsmanship. The three-day event, which took place from the 27th to the 29th of September, saw some of the country’s most talented young weightlifters battle it out for top honours.
The competition was tense as all weightlifters from different schools across the island were trying their best to secure a title. Despite all the competition Ravishka Dissanayake and Yasan Kavsidu emerged as the standout stars of the tournament, securing the first-place title with outstanding performances.
Second place was claimed by Sadil Angammana who demonstrated both technique and strength by securing a silver medal. This was followed by Tanuj Navarajah and Dhishal Thomas who managed to place third. Their efforts were not only a testament to their talent but also an inspiration to all the young lifters out there.
The team collectively secured the second runners up title, with a a testament to the school’s well-rounded weightlifting program and the dedication of its athletes.
Finally, we thank all the weightlifters of Trinity College, Coach Mr. Manjula Wijerathne and the MIC Mr.Hasitha Nishshankarachchi for all their hard work toward the teams’ success.
With the conclusion of the 2024 All-Island School Games, all eyes now turn to the upcoming Youth, Junior, and Senior National Weightlifting Championship, set to take place later this year. As the anticipation builds, we extend our best wishes to the team in their pursuit of even more titles and success.
