Students from the Automotive Society of Trinity College participated in an inter-school water rocket competition organised by Teldeniya National School, as part of their Science and Technology Exhibition programme titled Innovista’25, held to commemorate the 120th anniversary of the institution. The competition took place at the Teldeniya School Grounds on the 15th of July 2025.

A total of 26 teams participated in the competition, with judging based on the accuracy of trajectory and flight path, build quality and aesthetics, teamwork and coordination, and maximum distance travelled — the latter carrying the highest points weighting.
The Trinity College team excelled in all five areas, securing first place in the competition. The College was represented by Master Savinuth Mathavan, Master Brannon Stephan, Master Chenula Abeysundara, Master Menula Wijesinghe, and Master Kusal Jayasinghe.
The rockets and launcher were designed and constructed by the team in the College Automotive Workshop, with support from the Maintenance Workshop. Test launches were conducted prior to the event at the Junior School Grounds and Asgiriya Grounds premises.
The rockets used compressed air and water as the propellant and achieved an approximate flight distance of 90 metres during the competition.
I would also like to extend my gratitude to the College Maintenance Workshop staff, Asgiriya Ground Premises staff, Mr. Wasana Dissanayake (Director – TCCEI), the Headmistresses of the Junior and Middle Schools, the Sectional Heads of the O/L and A/L sections, and the Co-Vice Principal, Vice Principal, and the Principal, for providing us with the necessary guidance and permissions to make this a successful event. Additionally, I wish to thank the Principal and Academic Staff of Teldeniya National School for the warm welcome and support extended to us.
