The Islamic Students’ Movement (ISM) of Trinity College, Kandy hosted their second major event for the year: the 54th Al Huda Inter-School Islamic Day Competitions, held on 27 September 2025.
This significant occasion marked a proud milestone in the ISM’s journey, drawing participation from more than 20 schools and over 600 students from across the island. It remains one of the largest and most spirited gatherings in the movement’s recent history.
Open to students from Grades 6 to 13, the competitions were grouped into three categories:
- Junior (Grades 6 to 8)
- Intermediate (Grades 9 to 11)
- Senior (Grades 12 and 13)
Events were conducted separately for boys and girls in individual categories, while open events were accessible to all participants. These included:
- Individual Events: Oratory, Essay Writing, Qira’ath Recitation, Dialogue Writing, Short Story Writing
- Open Events: Qaseedha, Quiz, Calligraphy, Adhaan (open to boys from all categories), Solo Song (open to girls from all categories)
The judging panel comprised respected Mu’allims and Mu’allimas, female educators, and distinguished Old Boys of Trinity College, Kandy, whose presence lent credibility and grace to the event. Special thanks are due to Mr Shihan Maharoof, Mr Ahnaaf Kaleel, Mr Yoosuf Zuhry, Mr Akif Faiz, Mr Mohammed Shamil, and Mr Mohamed Rahmi for serving as judges.
We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to our Mistress-in-Charge, Mrs Farzan; the Director of the Co-Curricular Enrichment Initiative, Mr Wasana Dissanayake; the Vice Principal, Mr Krishanthan Anthonydas; and the Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara OSB, for their steadfast support and guidance.
Congratulations to the ISM Committee of 2025 for organising a thoughtful and well-coordinated programme. The event was met with high praise from participating schools, reflecting the dedication and unity of the team.
The ISM now looks forward to its next milestone: the 55th Annual General Meeting, scheduled for early 2026. May this journey continue to bring growth, unity, and excellence.
