On 9 July 2026, the Technopreneurship Club of Trinity College, Kandy organised a Digital Entrepreneurship Workshop at the Lakshman Kadirgamar Auditorium, bringing students face to face with the practical realities of building a business in the digital age. The hour-long session gave Trinitians an introduction to what it takes to transform an idea into an income-generating venture.
The workshop covered the fundamentals of entrepreneurship, guiding students on how to identify real-world problems worth solving and develop them into viable business ideas. Beyond the theory, students explored how to cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset, use digital platforms to build visibility and reach, and turn their skills and interests into sustainable ventures.
Students were also introduced to the basics of sandbox and incubator models, learning how these environments allow entrepreneurs to test and refine ideas before taking them to market. They were then given the opportunity to pitch their own business ideas during the session.
A timely segment on recognising digital scams related to online entrepreneurship platforms rounded off the workshop’s practical focus, equipping students to innovate with confidence while remaining aware of potential risks.
The session was conducted by Mr Zahir Fuard, a business mentor and digital strategist who currently serves as Head of Technology at Global Study Connect (GSC), a Sri Lankan higher education services company. Drawing on his experience in technology and global education, he shared practical insights into turning ideas into meaningful ventures.
The workshop reflects Trinity College’s continued commitment to fostering entrepreneurial thinking alongside academic learning, giving students the knowledge and confidence to take their first steps as digital entrepreneurs.
