Trinity College, Kandy is pleased to announce the achievement of Master Hiranga Suraweera, who won a Gold Medal at the Sri Lanka Junior Astronomy Olympiad. Ranking 7th at the All-Island level with a score of 86 marks, his performance earned him a place among the top young astronomers in the country. The Olympiad was held on 2nd November 2025 at several places around Sri Lanka including Open University at Polgolla and was attended by more than 1000 students from schools around the country.
This success marks a significant milestone in Master Suraweera’s journey as he continues to excel in national competitions. His results have opened the possibility of representing Sri Lanka at the International Junior Astronomy Olympiad, scheduled to be held in Thailand later this year. We wish him the very best as he pursues this prestigious opportunity.
Master Suraweera expressed his sincere gratitude to the school for its support and extended his appreciation to Mr Wasana Dissanayake, Mrs Nalika Gunaratne (former Teacher-in-Charge of the Astronomy Club), and Ms Vindula Amarasinghe (current Teacher-in-Charge) for their guidance in nurturing his talent.
