Trinity College Makerspace students meet with the U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission

Aspiring students of the Makerspace course recently shared with Chargé d’affaires Robert Hilton what they’ve learned through American Corner Makerspace classes in Kandy on an official meet-up at the American Corner on 12th July 2017. Among many who follow the Makerspace course, three students from Trinity were also present at this occasion: Hasala Ratnaweera, Navindu Amarakoon and Mario De Silva, who are also members of the Trinity College Media Unit.

All the students who follow the Makerspace course were invited for this occasion where each and every youngster got the opportunity of speaking with the Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy in Colombo, Mr. Robert Hilton, who generously shared his ideas with all the students.
Mr. Hilton was amazed when the members of the Trinity College Media Unit introduced their sports app which was developed without any professional training. He extended his wishes to the main developer of the app, Master Navindu Amarakoon, to keep developing and improve it as much as possible. Mr. Madasekara, the College’s careers counselor, was also present at this event, and personally spoke with Mr. Hilton about higher education and career opportunities that will be available in the future.

Mr. Hilton stated, congratulating the development of the Media App, “This is wonderful and highly commendable for a group of school students to engage in something like this through immense planning and I am really amazed to see that the concept has been brought to a practical interface and is now open for the public”

The main aim of the Makerspace course is to introduce students to Artificial Intelligence, an area which is set to become one of the biggest source of job opportunities in the future. Students are encouraged to learn and experiment with their ideas and concepts in a user-friendly environment provided by the American Corner, Kandy.
