Among the diverse sports in which Trinity College excels, football has recently surged in popularity across all three sections of the school. This newfound enthusiasm can be attributed to the remarkable victories achieved by the senior teams at the Sri Lanka Schools Football Association (SLSFA) Division II Group N games, held on September 11th and 12th at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium Pallekele. Trinity’s stellar performance in these matches catapulted the college to the summit of the league.
Trinity’s opening match pitted them against St. Anthony’s College Kandy, resulting in an astonishing 7-point victory. Vidumeth Dhammage and Akshee Mahadivulwewa each netted two goals, while Vevash Muraleedran, Shaan Althaf, and Uvan Vithanage contributed with one goal each.
In the second match, Trinity secured a resounding 2-0 victory against St. Sylvester’s College Kandy, courtesy of goals from Dev Karavita and Stephen Asher.
Trinity continued its winning streak with a 3-0 triumph over Sri Sumangala College. The next challenge came forth with Dharmaraja College, where Trinity emerged victorious with a score of 3-1, thanks to goals from Yevan Hulangamuwa, Dinusha Peries, and Viduneth Dhammage.
As the final whistle blew, Trinity proudly occupied the top spot in the league, amassing a total of 12 points. This achievement not only brought glory to Trinity Football but also instilled pride in the entire college community. It stands as a testament to the relentless dedication and hard work of the students who persevered day and night to turn this success into reality.
