Continuing the recently initiated legacy and upholding Trinity Debating to its esteemed name, one of the two Trinity College teams that participated in the annually held Lilian Nixon Debating Tournament at Ladies’ College emerged Champions. They brought home the prestigious shield of this World Schools’ Debating Society approved tournament, which took place on the 22nd, 23rd, and 24th of September.
Master Thithira Jayakody, Abidh Jameel, Sanchitha Wickrama and Chaniru Senhas, who spoke as 2nd, 3rd and 1st respectively, representing the “TCK B” outsmarted others in three out of the five preliminary rounds. They continued this success in all subsequent rounds, including the quarter finals and semifinals which were debated against St. Thomas’ College and Bishop’s College, respectively.
Following this impressive run, Trinity brought Royal College to defeat in the adrenaline rushing final round of the tournament, breaking their dominant championship at the Lilian Nixon Debating Championship held previously.
Meanwhile, the “TCK A” team with Thesath Keppetiyagama, Shaluka Herath, Abeesha Wickramasinghe and Muhammed Jameel exhibited Trinity’s debating prowess in the preliminary rounds, winning two out of the five rounds.
Whilst congratulating the debaters, we acknowledge the indelible support extended by the coach of the team, Mr. Suchith Tissera, Teachers-in-Charge, Mr Hasitha Nissankaarachcchi and Mrs. Fathima Majeed for the guidance provided throughout Trinity Debating’s journey to the top.
Additionally, a heartfelt thank you goes to Mr Hasitha Nissankaarachcchi for accompanying us on this journey and being instrumental in Trinity Debating’s success.
The Trinity Debating legacy continues and the College’s dominance in the circuit continues to grow along with it. It is a source of inspiration for young debaters and, is a contributing factor to encourage TCK’s many extracurricular activities.
It is our wish that this small debating empire of TCK will be recognized both nationally and internationally for their vociferous eloquence.
