Grade 10 is a critical year for students as they prepare for the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examination while navigating the complexities of emotional growth and self-discipline. Recognising this pivotal stage, Trinity College organised the Grade 10 Experiential Learning Camp from 21st to 23rd May at the Trinity College Eco Learning Arena (TELA), Pallekele. This programme was thoughtfully designed to provide an experiential learning journey that extends far beyond the classroom.
The core objectives of the programme were to foster personality development, enhance 21st-century skills, and cultivate a positive attitude towards education. By immersing students in a natural and challenging environment, the camp aimed to build essential life skills such as self-discipline, goal-setting, time and stress management, teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking. These skills are vital for academic success and long-term personal balance.
Stepping outside their familiar academic setting allowed students to gain new perspectives and confidence. Through carefully planned activities and real-world lessons, they grew socially, emotionally, and intellectually, preparing them to face future academic and life challenges with courage and clarity.
Events Conducted During the Three Days
Day 1: Building Foundations
The programme kicked off with a simple yet powerful exercise—students learnt to arrange their beds under the guidance of Mr Bandula Pushpakumara, instilling a sense of order and personal responsibility. Students were then divided into eight self-led teams, promoting leadership and accountability. Throughout the day, activities focused on communication, teamwork, and abstract thinking, facilitated by Mr Kanishka Samarasundara, Mr Pushpakumara, and Mr Dulanjaya Abeywickrama. The evening brought a surprise musical session by Mr Chamila Maddegoda and Mrs Jayanthi Wijekoon, creating emotional bonding through music. The day ended with a bonfire, fireworks, and student performances celebrating unity and creativity.
Day 2: Real-World Lessons
After a refreshing morning fitness session, students attended a vital drug prevention awareness talk conducted by the Sri Lanka Police, supported by Vice Principal Mr Krishanthan Antonydas and Co-Vice Principal Mr Ananda Marasinghe, who emphasised mindful living and daily planning. A hands-on sandwich-making challenge tested the students’ resourcefulness and teamwork. Later, a hike with obstacle challenges pushed their physical endurance and mental toughness. The day concluded with a lively DJ dance party, filling the atmosphere with energy, joy, and unforgettable memories.
Day 3: Financial Literacy & Reflection
The final day began with the familiar morning routine before students participated in an insightful financial literacy session led by Mr Rukshan Galanga, Finance Manager of Trinity College, where they learnt the basics of money management and budgeting—skills essential for their future. The programme concluded with a closing assembly and a recap video produced by the Media Unit, highlighting the laughter, lessons, and growth experienced over the three transformative days.
