The Trinity College National Drum and Dance Troupe (NDDT) earned two First Place finishes at the 2026 All-Island Dancing Competition, with victories in the Oriental Ballet and Character Portrayal categories. The double achievement recognises the hard work and dedication of the students and their instructors, whose commitment continues to strengthen the College’s tradition of excellence in Sri Lankan dance.
NDDT secured First Place in the Oriental Ballet category with the production ‘ජල සම්පත් සුරකිමු’ (‘Let’s Protect Water Resources’). Performed by 24 students, the production showcased the beauty of Sri Lankan traditional dance while conveying an important message on the conservation of water resources for future generations. The competition was held on 4 July 2026 at Sri Chandrajyothi College, Yakkala.
Adding to NDDT’s success, Master Dilitha Wettewa won First Place in the Character Portrayal category with his performance titled ‘Sigiriya Kashyapa’. His portrayal of King Kashyapa reflected expressive performance, artistic skill and a deep appreciation of Sri Lanka’s historical heritage. The Character Portrayal competition was held on 4 July 2026 at Bandaranayake College, Gampaha.
These achievements were made possible through the dedication and guidance of NDDT’s instructors, Mr Sunil Chandrasiri, Mr Imal Wasagarathna, Mr Nadun Jayasinghe and Mr Prasad Weerasinghe, together with the Master-in-Charge of the Trinity College National Drum and Dance Troupe, Mr Kanishka Samarasundara. Their commitment to nurturing young talent and preserving Sri Lankan dance traditions continues to inspire Trinity students.
The Trinity College community congratulates all the students, instructors and staff members who contributed to this success, celebrating another memorable achievement in the College’s proud cultural tradition.
