The Peace Circle of Trinity College organised a workshop on Peace building on the Poya day 29th May 2018 at the Lakshman Kadirgamar auditorium. It was conducted under the supervision and guidance of the teacher in charge Mrs. K.M.A.N. Ganegoda, with the assistance of Mrs. Somarathna, Mrs. Hettiarachchi, Mrs.Suresh, Mrs. Farsan, and Mrs.Madushani
The main purpose of the event was to promote peace between different communities by educating them about peace building and conflict resolution.
The main topics discussed were:
- Introduction to Peace building
- Managing a conflict
- Resolving a conflict
- Mediation to a conflict
The underlying theme of the event was to use active listening as the key for building peace. There were important activities for the students supervised by Vice Principal and the Chaplain of the College to help practise active listening.
Overall the event was very successful and students were able to get a fundamental understanding of peace building. Peace building is not easy, but it is very important, it is possible, and it is a fun.
The Peace Circle hopes to organize few more workshops in the future.
