Trinity College recently marked a significant milestone in its co-curricular program by hosting the event, “AI for All: Transforming the Future Across Fields”, on May 17th at the Main Hall.
This symposium demonstrated the college’s commitment to preparing students for a future shaped by artificial intelligence through experiences beyond the regular curriculum. The event was organized through the collaborative efforts of the TCK Batch of 1999, the Centre for Excellence (CFE), and the Technopreneurship Club, with expert support from the Multidisciplinary AI Research Centre (MARC) of the University of Peradeniya which was an excellent effort of collaboration.
The day commenced with a welcome speech by Mr. Ananda Marasinghe, Co-Vice Principal of Trinity College, who emphasized the importance of embracing technological advancements as a vital part of students’ holistic education. The event was graced by representatives of the TCK Batch of 99’ and a distinguished panel of experts from MARC, including Prof. Roshan Godaliyadda, Prof. Janaka Ekanayake, Prof. Vijitha Herath, Prof. Roshan Ragel, Dr. Asitha Bandaranayake, and Prof. Parakrama Ekanayake. Accompanying them was a team of talented research assistants from MARC, who enriched the sessions with their multidisciplinary insights and real-world success stories.
Throughout the symposium, attendees engaged with presentations and demonstrations showcasing how AI is actively transforming the future across diverse sectors such as agriculture, healthcare, education, and biomedical engineering. Experts from MARC highlighted pioneering projects, illustrating how AI bridges traditional subject boundaries, creates new career opportunities, and drives innovation. Students from Grade 8 to A/L actively participated, posing thoughtful questions during the Q&A sessions, which were praised by the experts for their forward-thinking nature.
The success of “AI for All: Transforming the Future Across Fields” would not have been possible without the support and dedication of many individuals and organizations. The organizers extend their gratitude to Rev. Father Araliya Jayasundara for his visionary leadership, as well as to the Vice Principal and Co-Vice Principal for their continued guidance. Special thanks are due to Father Shelton Samadanam, Mrs. Krishni George, and the heads of the academy for their encouragement throughout the event’s planning and execution. The event also benefitted greatly from the contributions of Mr. Anuruddha Ekanayake, the IT Manager, and his staff, alongside the Premises Manager and their team, who ensured smooth logistics. The efforts of Mr. Shevantha de Silva, Mr. Hirantha Madurasinghe, Mr. Sheshan Abeysekara and the students of the media unit were instrumental in documenting the event’s highlights. The ICT and technology teachers, and especially the Technopreneurship Club student committee, are commended for their excellent collaboration and enthusiasm. The role of Batch of 99’ and the experts from university was significant towards the successful completion of the event and on behalf of the college community, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for their generous contributions.
In conclusion, this co-curricular event exemplified the shared vision of Trinity College, CFE, MARC, and the TCK Batch of 1999 in preparing students for a dynamic, technology-driven world. The collaborative efforts have laid a strong foundation for future initiatives, including the establishment of the AI and STEM Lab and the re-launch of Centre for Excellence. These projects will continue to equip students with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving technological landscape through meaningful learning experiences outside the standard curriculum.
