Table Tennis teams of Trinity College proved their spirit and grit at the National Schools’ Games held at S. Thomas’ College Mt. Lavinia commencing from the 7th-9th October, 2023.
After 30 years, the Under 16 team secured the 3rd place, while the Under 20 team demonstrated an exceptional form throughout the tournament.
The Under 16 team, led by their captain Master Yevan Bandara, displayed a remarkable performance within the entire championship. The team’s lineup included Lasas Somachandra, Menula Bandara, Shafiullah Akram, Vihanga Sangakkara, and Leeshitha Gunathilake. They showed their mettle in a thrilling match against Dharmaraja to secure the 2nd Runners-up position, making their school proud.
The Trinity Under 20 team, under the leadership of Master Dan Bartholomeusz, portrayed a noteworthy form in the preliminary stages of the tournament. The team included Akesh Dimantha, Mithum Munasinghe, and Timothy Navarathnaraja. Although they were unable to clinch the top spot, they were placed 4th in the overall competition, a testament to their dedication and skill.
Behind the scenes, in gratitude we acknowledge the committed coaching of Mr. Sampath Kumara and the guidance of the MIC: Mr. Mohamed Sufiyan who play a pivotal role in the success of both teams. Their mentorship aided Trinity Table Tennis teams to achieve these impressive results.
