The Junior School Science Society conducted a weekend programme on Saturday, 20 June 2026, offering participants an introduction to the fundamentals of electronics through a series of interactive activities.
Designed to encourage curiosity and experimentation, the sessions enabled participants to explore how electronic components function and interact within simple systems. Through observation, discussion, and construction tasks, they gained insight into concepts that form the basis of modern technology.
Activities included:
• Introduction to Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
• Lighting an LED using batteries and wires
• Drawing simple electrical circuits
• Understanding the flow of current in a circuit
• Constructing a simple fan circuit using a motor, batteries, and wires
• Introduction to basic music circuits
• Understanding the functions of transistors and resistors
By assembling and testing circuits, participants discovered how individual components work together to perform specific tasks. These hands-on exercises encouraged critical thinking and helped translate scientific concepts into practical understanding.
The Junior School Science Society continues to provide opportunities for young learners to explore scientific ideas beyond the classroom, fostering curiosity and confidence through active participation.
The society extends its sincere gratitude to the Headmistress, Mrs C. P. K. Tissera, for her continued encouragement and support. Special appreciation is extended to Mr Pamuditha Jayasinghe, an old boy from the 2019 batch, for conducting the sessions and sharing his knowledge in an engaging and accessible manner.
The society also acknowledges Mr Subash Dhanasekara for his assistance in identifying and coordinating the resource person, whose contribution helped make the event a success.
Guided by its Teacher-in-Charge, Mrs Mayanthi Abeykoon, the Junior School Science Society remains committed to creating opportunities that nurture scientific curiosity and inspire exploration among young learners.
