Reviewed by Rehan Anandakumar (Web Content Team)  To those watching, Trinity and Royal alike, this was no ordinary final, but a cinematic showdown that pulsed with tension. Every phase carried weight, every moment edged closer to history. The Lions arrived at Sugathadasa Stadium with purpose and spent eighty minutes delivering on it, claiming the Dialog Schools Rugby Knockouts 2026 President’s Trophy after fifteen years.  From the first whistle, the Lions moved the ball with structure and intent that Royal College, Colombo struggled to contain. Centre Kevin Weerakoon opened the scoring out wide, following a well-worked passage involving Abdul Malik and skipper Shan Althaf, who joined in with quick and controlled passing.  Royal responded through a rolling maul, with prop Lemitha Amerasinghe powering over to briefly take the lead. Trinity answered immediately. Winger Dimath Abeypitiya crossed twice in quick succession, while a well-judged cross-kick from Malik found Ammaar Manzil, who gathered cleanly in the corner to extend the lead to 22–12.  Althaf added another try before half-time, his chip-and-chase exposing gaps in the Royal defence. At the break, Trinity held a firm advantage.  The second half saw Trinity maintain the same control. Althaf added two more tries, first reacting quickly to a loose ball, then collecting another cross-kick from Malik. Hamza Abdeen and Manzil further extended the lead, as Trinity’s supporters found their voice in the stands.  Royal added late tries through Hiruka Jayadinu and Akira Yatawara, both converted by Mohamed Simak. Despite these efforts, the result was no longer in doubt.  Trinity closed the match decisively. Thisara Peris gathered a cross-kick and passed to Althaf, who completed his hat-trick and brought the match to a fitting close.  Fifty-eight points. Reviewed by Master Sayula Kahandawela and Master Avishan Sathyaseelan March at the Quadrangle is always a testing ground, but the 2026 Inter-house Basketball Tournament reached a new level of intensity. From 17th to 20th March, the court was a furnace: not just because of the Kandy sun, but due to the sheer effort every house brought to the game. With parents and students on the sidelines cheering with enthusiasm, the house teams displayed great spirit. In the Junior category, the energy was high. Squealery House dominated the court, showing a level of fitness and speed that was difficult to match, especially in their 27-0 win over Gibson. Sahayam followed in second place, playing with grit and teamwork, while Pilcher secured third with consistent play. The Senior tournament was a masterclass in tactical discipline and resilience. Central Boarding House (CBH) lived up to their reputation, remaining unbeaten and clinching the top spot after a competitive final against Lemuel, which ended 51-38. The CBH defensive wall was difficult to break, but Lemuel’s tactical execution kept them a constant threat throughout the week. Oorloff put in a significant effort to take third place, followed by Simithraaratchy and Garrett, who both displayed moments of brilliant playmaking and unselfish teamwork. What stood out was the atmosphere of the Quadrangle itself. Seeing players from rival houses, exhausted after a physical game, shaking hands and sharing a laugh, reflected the true purpose of the tournament. Every house did its best to nurture the spirit of sportsmanship. As the 2026 tournament concludes, the bar has been set high for the rest of the season. The teams are grateful to the Coaches, the Principal Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara, Vice Principal Mr Krishanthan Antonydas, Co-Vice Principal Mr Ananda Marasinghe, Director of Sports Mr Gihan Samarasekara, and the committee members of the Trinity Basketball Foundation. Recognition is also extended to the House Coordinators, Mr Wasana Dissanayake (Director of the TCCEI), MIC of Basketball Mr Dulanjaya Abeywickrama, TIC of Basketball Mrs Thanuja Wijerathne, as well as the teachers and parents for their support and guidance.
Reviewed by Dilith Halahakoon (Web Content Team)  As the sun shone on the historic grounds of Asgiriya, young Trinity athletes geared up for a day of excitement, sportsmanship, and dedication at the Junior School Inter-house Athletic Meet 2026, held on 12 February 2026. As Trinitians prepared to take the baton, a vibrant opening ceremony welcomed the Chief Guest, who was escorted by the Under 8 and Under 9 Champions of 2025. The ceremonial hoisting of the National Flag was performed by the Chief Guest, Mr Muthiah Chandrasekaran, a respected entrepreneur and proprietor of a jewellery business in Colombo. The College Flag was hoisted by the Principal, Rev. Fr. Araliya Jayasundara. Mr Chandrasekaran is an old boy of Trinity College, Kandy, having studied at the College from 1965 to 1975. During his school years, he demonstrated strong leadership and a deep involvement in school life. He represented Trinity College in hockey at the Under 14 level and served as Vice President of the Tamil Literary Union and President of the Hindu Student Movement. He continues to serve the College and currently holds office as the President of the Trinity College Kandy Old Boys’ Association, Colombo Branch. After a prayer by the College Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Sanjaya Gamage, attention turned to the lighting of the Olympic Lamp. This tradition was completed by the athletic captains of the competing houses. The Athletes’ Oath followed, as the House Captains pledged their allegiance to the rules. Following a display by the Junior School Western Band, the inter-house athletic meet was officially declared open by the Principal. A drill display with colourful umbrellas was performed by the students of the Junior School, followed by the Junior School gymnastics team. Track events for the Under 8, 9, and 10 age groups were highly competitive. The field became a blur of colour as the five houses went head-to-head. Despite the competitive atmosphere, the young Trinitians maintained the values of sportsmanship. As the award ceremony began, students walked up to Mrs Chandrasekaran and Mr Muthiah Chandrasekaran to receive their certificates and trophies. The Under 8 category was won by Master S. G. Abeypala of Carter Red, the Under 9 category by Master A. M. S. N. Adikari of Boarding House, and the Under 10 category by Master S. Adrien of Carter Red. Reviewed by Sathira Marahela (Web Content Team)Photographed by Anuk Paranagama (Trinity College Media Unit)   The 107th edition of the ‘Battle of the Blues of the Hill Capital’ between Trinity College, Kandy (TCK) and St. Anthony’s College, Katugastota (SACK), took place from 12th to 14th March 2026 at the Trinity College Cricket Stadium, Asgiriya.   The three-day encounter brought together students, staff, parents, and Old Boys in a spirited celebration of tradition and school cricket.    The atmosphere remained lively throughout the match. The rhythm of papare bands and the waving of flags across the stands reflected the unique character of this long-standing rivalry.  Winning the toss, College elected to bowl first on a surface offering early assistance to the seamers. The decision proved effective as the Trinity bowling attack took early wickets, reducing the Antonians to 13 for 3. SACK recovered through a resilient unbeaten 64 runs from Master Sisal Attanayake and a steady 44 runs by Master Kaushika Kumarasinghe, guiding their team to a first-innings total of 157.  The Trinity response began cautiously. By the close of the opening day, College had reached 66 for 3, with the captain, Master Dimantha Mahavithana, anchoring the innings with a composed half-century.  Day two saw a significant recovery led by Master Aadham Hilmy. With TCK at 111 for 7, Master Hilmy produced a determined century, scoring 125 runs. This became the highest individual score for a Trinity batter in the Big Match since Kaushalya Weeraratne’s 148 runs in 1999.   Master Hilmy’s inning was heavily supported by a valuable 29 runs from Master Sethmika Seneviratne and 15 runs from Master Viduneth Dhammage. They guided TCK to a total of 264.  This performance provided College with a first-innings lead of 107 runs. SACK began their second innings late in the day, reaching 9 for 1 before play ended early due to fading light.  On the final day, TCK maintained pressure on the opposition. Left-arm spinner Master Kanilka Anthony delivered an outstanding performance, claiming six wickets in the innings to finish with a match haul of ten wickets. Master Anthony’s match bag of 10 wickets became the highest number of wickets taken by a bowler in the last 29 years. (1997, S.Fernando – TCK, 11/69)  Although Master Kaushika Kumarasinghe contributed a determined 59 runs, the Antonians were dismissed for 170.  With a target set for 64 runs, TCK began the chase at a brisk pace, reaching 63 for 1 in just 5.2 overs. However, play was interrupted by an on-field disagreement and a crowd invasion. Following a period of deliberation by the match officials regarding the resumption of play, the umpires awarded the match to TCK under the laws governing forfeiture.  This result marks the first outright victory for Trinity in 14 years, the previous win occurring in 2012 under the captaincy of Niroshan Dickwella. This victory also tied the record for the largest margin of victory by wickets which was last set in 1927 and again in 1951.   For his historic achievement and exceptional contribution of ten wickets in the match, Master Kanilka Anthony was named Man of the Match of the 107th Encounter.   The other individual trophies were awarded to: Best Fielder – Master Viduneth Dhammage, Best Bowler – Master Kanilka Anthony and Best Batsman – Master Aadham Hilmy.   The College extends its gratitude to the players, officials, and supporters who made this encounter memorable. We also acknowledge the dedication of the coaching staff and management for their guidance throughout the season.

Review by Dilith Halahakoon (Scout Troop)  The 17th Trinity College Senior Scout Troop worked with the Kandy Red Cross Society to train 42 Trinity Scouts in First Aid on 18 November at the Junior School Main Hall. First Aid plays an important role in promoting safety and well-being within any community.   The aim of the First Aid Camp was to give the scouts clear and practical training in handling emergencies. The programme also supported the Troop’s badge work progression towards key proficiency badges required for the President’s Scout Award. Through a mix of lessons, demonstrations, and simple scenario-based activities, the camp strengthened the scouts’ ability to assess situations, manage injuries, and provide immediate care. It also helped them build important Scouting values such as leadership, teamwork, discipline, and responsibility. With the guidance of the Red Cross Society, the scouts learnt the basic steps to take before a casualty is taken to hospital, and how to organise their actions in an emergency. Training covered procedures for heart attacks, fainting, shock, difficulty breathing, burns, fractures, headaches, and other common situations. The Red Cross team taught these skills through practical activities that helped the scouts understand each step clearly. They learnt how to give CPR, place a casualty in the recovery position, and offer temporary relief for cuts, bruises, burns, and broken or dislocated bones. The camp also introduced them to poisonous animals and plants and the immediate First Aid required for such cases. The training improved the scouts’ confidence and practical life skills.  Each participant received an internationally recognised certificate issued by the World Red Cross Society. It remains valid for one year and confirms their knowledge of basic First Aid.  The session ended with valuable learning experiences for all scouts. The Senior Scout Troop extends its gratitude to the members of the Kandy Red Cross Society, Mr Malitha Dissanayake, Mr Eranga Weerasekara, Ms Hiruni Kumarasinghe, and Ms Anjalika Nipuni, for sharing their expertise. The Troop also thanks the Head of TCCEI, Mr Wasana Dissanayake, for his support, as well as Mr Prabath Gunarathna (MIC), Master Abdurrahman Roshan (Troop Leader), Master Heraan Logeshwaran (Assistant Troop Leader), Master Ovin Weerasinghe (Quarter Master), and Mr Navinda Abeygunawardhana (Scout Master) for organising the event.
